Indonesia Launches First Halal-Certified Syringe to Strengthen Medical Industry
JAKARTA – The Ministry of Health has announced that the introduction of T1 Syringe—Indonesia’s first halal-certified syringe manufactured domestically—represents more than a commercial achievement. Officials describe it as a national platform for education and advocacy surrounding the use of high-quality, halal-compliant medical devices.
“This initiative is expected to strengthen the independence of our national medical industry while enhancing global market confidence in Indonesian-made healthcare products,” stated Zulfikar Biruni, Head of the Working Group for Enhancement and Facilitation of Local Content in Medical Devices at the Ministry of Health, during the launch event in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Historic Collaboration Between Global and Local Manufacturers
Terumo Corporation, in partnership with PT Oneject Indonesia, officially unveiled the T1 Syringe—the nation’s first locally-manufactured halal syringe utilizing Electron Beam (E-Beam) sterilization technology.
The product emerges from collaboration between Terumo Corporation, a high-tech medical device manufacturer with over a century of experience, and PT Oneject Indonesia, the pioneering producer of Auto Disable Syringes (ADS) in the country.
The syringe is designed to meet the daily operational requirements of medical professionals while prioritizing halal values and international quality standards.
Chemical-Free Sterilization Technology
The T1 Syringe is manufactured using Electron Beam (E-Beam) sterilization technology, which operates without chemicals, leaves no residue, and proves more environmentally friendly compared to conventional methods.
This technology ensures every product is sterile, safe, and ready for use immediately upon leaving the production facility.
Strengthening Indonesia’s Position in Global Medical Supply Chain
Toshiyuki Akaike, Chairman and Managing Director of Terumo Asia Holdings, emphasized that this launch marks an important milestone for the national medical device industry while reinforcing Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain for high-quality medical equipment.
“Through T1 Syringe, we present three core commitments: Halal, E-Beam Irradiation, and Globally Trusted. We believe healthcare services must be inclusive, safe, and sustainable without compromising international quality standards,” he stated.
Symbol of Integration: Halal Values Meet Global Standards
Jahja Tear Tjahjana, President Director of PT Oneject Indonesia, explained that this collaboration symbolizes the integration of halal values, patient safety, environmental sustainability, and global quality within a single essential medical product.
Furthermore, it demonstrates global confidence in domestic medical device manufacturing capabilities.
“The Terumo T1 Syringe is Indonesia’s first halal syringe with halal certification for local manufacturing processes. This certification ensures that every patient can receive care with complete peace of mind and security, embodying respect for individuality and cultural diversity,” he explained.
Commitment to National Medical Independence
PT Terumo Indonesia, as a world-class company in medical technology, continues to play a role in developing Indonesia’s medical sector through its commitment to contribute to society through healthcare and support for government policies aimed at achieving national medical industry independence through the use of quality, globally competitive domestic medical devices.
Supporting Government Healthcare Policies
The launch aligns with broader government initiatives to accelerate the independence of the national medical device industry and increase the utilization of locally-produced healthcare equipment.
Commission VII of the House of Representatives has also encouraged strengthening the medical device industry to create employment opportunities, while the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) continues to promote transparency and halal compliance across the medical device industry.
The Ministry of Industry has prepared incentives to accelerate the independence of the medical device sector, recognizing its strategic importance for national healthcare resilience.
A New Standard for Inclusive Healthcare
The T1 Syringe represents a significant step forward in demonstrating that medical products can simultaneously meet religious requirements, international safety standards, and environmental considerations.
As Indonesia continues to position itself as a key player in the global healthcare manufacturing landscape, this launch signals the country’s capacity to produce innovative, certified medical devices that respect cultural values while maintaining world-class quality.
For healthcare providers, patients, and the broader medical community, the T1 Syringe offers assurance that quality healthcare can be both inclusive and compliant with diverse patient needs.
