Đà Nẵng Develops Muslim-Friendly Tourism to Capture Rapidly Expanding Halal Travel Market

JAKARTA – As the worldwide halal tourism sector experiences significant growth, Đà Nẵng is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on this lucrative segment by creating a welcoming, inclusive destination that meets international standards for Muslim travelers.

Strong Tourism Performance Drives Expansion

The central coastal city recorded impressive tourism figures in 2025, hosting over 17.3 million overnight guests—a 15% increase compared to the previous year. International arrivals surged to more than 7.6 million (up 2%), while domestic visitors reached approximately 9.7 million (up 8%).

Revenue from hospitality, food services, and travel operations totaled around VNĐ60 trillion ($2.28 billion), representing a 21% year-over-year increase and cementing tourism’s role as a fundamental economic driver for the city.

Targeted Muslim Market Approach

Throughout 2025, Đà Nẵng executed focused marketing initiatives aimed at Muslim tourists from Indonesia, Malaysia, Commonwealth of Independent States nations, and Middle Eastern countries. These efforts successfully attracted more than 617,000 visitors from these regions, facilitated by new direct and charter flight connections.

The city is pursuing a diversified strategy to draw affluent, extended-stay visitors from major markets including Northeast and Southeast Asia, India, Australia, and Europe, while simultaneously developing emerging markets such as India, the Middle East, and the United States.

Building a Comprehensive Halal Ecosystem

Vietnam’s national program for advancing international cooperation in halal industry development through 2030, authorized by the Prime Minister in February 2023, has provided substantial policy support for establishing a halal ecosystem, with tourism designated as a key priority area.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Ánh Thi, Đà Nẵng possesses strong foundations in geography, infrastructure, workforce capabilities, and service standards to accommodate Muslim guests and cultivate a halal tourism ecosystem aligned with the vision of becoming a premier Muslim-friendly destination.

Current Halal Infrastructure

The city now features over 800 dining venues catering to Muslim clientele, including nearly 40 establishments serving halal and Indian cuisine, with more than 10 holding official halal certification. Numerous hotels and restaurants have modified their offerings to appeal to Middle Eastern and CIS guests, providing halal, European-Asian fusion, and grilled food options.

Major tourism enterprises have spearheaded these developments. Sun World Ba Na Hills has established a halal-certified restaurant and dedicated prayer facilities, while investing in employee training and multilingual resources to enhance service for Muslim visitors. Furama Resort Danang has implemented a separate halal kitchen operating under rigorous standards and welcomed over 5,000 Muslim guests in 2025, achieving high satisfaction ratings.

Strategic Vision for Sustainable Growth

Tourism industry specialists consider halal tourism a sustainable growth catalyst that can help Đà Nẵng achieve a more balanced visitor composition and decrease dependence on conventional markets.

Tán Văn Vương, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, outlined plans for continued market analysis, development of appropriate tourism products, and implementation of the city’s Muslim-friendly tourism strategy for 2025-2030 in accordance with the national halal framework.

Key initiatives include ensuring visitor safety, assisting businesses in achieving halal compliance standards, expanding air connectivity, intensifying promotional activities, enhancing workforce training, and perfecting specialized products tailored for Muslim tourists.

By establishing itself as a culturally respectful and internationally integrated destination, Đà Nẵng aims to strengthen its reputation as a safe, sophisticated city that celebrates diversity while capturing significant opportunities in the fast-growing global halal tourism market.
