Saudi Arabia Tightens Umrah Visa Validity to Manage Record Pilgrim Surge

New 30-Day Entry Requirement Replaces Three-Month Window

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has introduced new amendments to Umrah visa regulations. Under the changes, Umrah visas will be automatically canceled 30 days after issuance if the pilgrim has not entered Saudi Arabia within that period, sources tell Al Arabiya.

According to the same sources, the new policy will take effect next week. The validity of the visa before entry has been reduced from three months to one month from the date of issuance. However, there will be no change to the permitted length of stay once the pilgrim arrives in Saudi Arabia – it will remain at three months, the sources confirmed.

Crowd Management Strategy Addresses Temperature Drop Impact

Commenting on the decision, Ahmed Bajaeifer, adviser to the National Committee for Umrah and Visit, told Al Arabiya that the measure comes as part of the ministry’s preparations for a significant rise in the number of Umrah pilgrims. The surge is expected following the end of summer and the drop in temperatures in Mecca and Medina. The aim is to allow authorities to better manage crowds and prevent overcrowding in the two holy cities.

Record-Breaking Season Sees 4 Million Visas Issued in Five Months

More than 4 million Umrah visas have been issued to international pilgrims since the new Umrah season began in early June, Al Arabiya understands.

Compared to previous seasons, this year’s Umrah season is achieving a record number of international pilgrims within just five months of its launch.
