Ministry and BPJPH Strengthen Halal Certification for Fishery Products
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is enhancing quality assurance for fishery products through collaboration with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) in implementing halal certification.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that Indonesian fishery products meet not only safety and quality standards, but also halal requirements, in line with Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance.
Head of the Marine and Fishery Products Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, stated that halal certification plays a critical role in improving the competitiveness and market acceptance of biological commodities, including fishery products, at both domestic and international levels. The certification also provides consumers with confidence that products have complied with halal standards throughout the entire production process.
The cooperation was formally established through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Jakarta on January 7. The agreement covers joint efforts in socialization, education, and the dissemination of halal assurance policies to raise awareness among the public and business stakeholders.
In addition, the partnership includes measures to enhance the competitiveness of marine and fishery products through halal certification, strengthen supervision of halal assurance implementation, and optimize the use of quality testing laboratories to support the certification process.
Ishartini emphasized that the synergy between the ministry and BPJPH will further strengthen the quality of Indonesian fishery products, enabling them to compete globally with clear halal assurance. Indonesian fishery products currently comply with international standards and have gained market access in 147 countries.
Meanwhile, BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan highlighted that halal certification is not merely a regulatory requirement, but also a strategic tool to stimulate national economic growth. He added that the core principles of halal—openness and transparency—ensure product traceability and help build consumer trust.
