The Philippines intensified its outreach to the Qatari travel market by presenting halal-friendly tourism initiatives during Qatar Travel Mart (QTM) 2025. Government agencies, led by the Department of Tourism (DoT) alongside the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, promoted the country as an inclusive destination highlighting cultural warmth, hospitality, plus Muslim-friendly services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tourism Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar described the campaign as a \u201cwhole-of-nation\u201d effort involving national agencies, local governments, private sector players, plus Muslim affairs institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Growing Network of Muslim-Friendly Accommodations<\/b><\/h2>\n

The DoT has officially recognized 42 accommodation establishments nationwide as Muslim-friendly. Megaworld Hotels & Resorts currently leads with 13 certified properties, while Robinsons Hotels Resorts remains under evaluation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Certification requirements include trained staff, Qibla indicators inside rooms, alcohol-free minibars, plus curated information on nearby mosques plus halal dining options. These standards aim to ensure comfort while respecting Islamic values.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Facilities Tailored for Muslim Travellers<\/b><\/h2>\n

Beyond accommodation standards, the DoT introduced practical facilities to strengthen halal tourism readiness. A Muslim-friendly travel log is now available via QR code, providing easy access to relevant travel information.<\/span><\/p>\n

One highlight is Marhaba Boracay Cove, an 800 square meter beach zone exclusively designated for Muslim visitors. Following this launch, Bohol province is exploring a similar concept, while hotels in Cebu are preparing facilities ahead of the Asean Tourism Forum 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rising Inbound Tourism Signals Market Potential<\/b><\/h2>\n

Inbound tourism to the Philippines recorded a 10 percent increase from 2023 to 2024, indicating steady momentum. Malaysia continues to rank among the country\u2019s top ten source markets, reinforcing the importance of Muslim-majority travellers.<\/span><\/p>\n

To further refine its strategy, the DoT is benchmarking Thailand\u2019s halal tourism framework while drawing lessons from Japan\u2019s service-oriented hospitality model.<\/span><\/p>\n

Halal Tourism as a Bridge to Gulf Engagement<\/b><\/h2>\n

Valderrosa-Abubakar highlighted the strong impression made by halal-certified Filipino cuisine on visiting officials from Brunei, viewing it as proof of growing credibility within Muslim markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

This positive reception underscores halal tourism as a strategic pathway for deeper engagement with Gulf countries, positioning the Philippines as a competitive destination aligned with Muslim traveller expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n
