According to a report by the New Straits Times (NST), the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Turkish investment agencies will formalize collaboration through an MoU to enhance cross-border investment and industrial linkages.

Mida chief executive officer Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim said the agreement will be exchanged with Invest in Türkiye to intensify cooperation between both countries. The collaboration is expected to facilitate increased Turkish investments into Malaysia, while also supporting Malaysian companies seeking to establish or expand operations in Türkiye.

The partnership will focus on industrial and technological sectors, leveraging Türkiye’s strengths in areas such as aerospace and defence. Through this cooperation, Malaysia aims to attract Turkish multinational suppliers to use Malaysia as a production and distribution base for the wider Asian market.

At the same time, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) highlighted Türkiye’s broader strategic value beyond its domestic market. Matrade chief executive officer Abu Bakar Yusof said Türkiye serves as a critical gateway to Europe and the Balkans, creating new pathways for Malaysian exporters.

He noted that Malaysian companies can utilize Türkiye as a regional hub to penetrate European markets more effectively, benefiting from its geographical position, established trade networks and connectivity with neighboring regions.

Multiple sectors are expected to gain from the enhanced cooperation, including manufacturing, technology and the halal industry. Abu Bakar emphasized that Türkiye’s strategic location and predominantly Muslim population make it a natural partner for halal-related collaboration, from food and consumer goods to halal-certified industrial products.

The MoU reflects Malaysia’s broader strategy to internationalise its halal industry while strengthening investment partnerships with key regional players. By aligning with Türkiye, Malaysia aims to expand market access, attract higher-value investments and reinforce its position within the global halal economy.

Source:

The Malaysian Reserve.
