Indonesian Halal Products Generate Strong Interest in Thai Market

Indonesian halal products have attracted significant attention in the Thai market, with potential business deals reaching $563,000 or approximately 9.19 billion rupiah during the Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 exhibition. The exhibition showcased Indonesia’s diverse range of superior products, from Muslim fashion and food to cosmetics and home decorations, demonstrating the country’s growing presence in global halal markets.

Successful Exhibition in Bangkok

The Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 exhibition took place from July 16-18, 2025, at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) in Bangkok, Thailand. The Indonesian Pavilion was officially opened by Rachmat Budiman, Indonesia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, marking a significant diplomatic and economic milestone for both countries.

Indonesia’s participation in this major halal trade event was made possible through collaborative efforts between multiple organizations. The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok worked together with Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Industry, the DKI Jakarta Provincial government’s Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small Medium Enterprises department, as well as the Indonesian Handicraft Exporters and Producers Association (ASEPHI).

Diverse Product Portfolio Attracts International Buyers

Rafika Arfani, Indonesia’s Trade Attache in Bangkok, explained that Indonesia successfully strengthened its reputation as a major player in the global halal product industry. The Indonesian Pavilion drew considerable attention from international buyers who were impressed by the wide variety of lifestyle products on display.

The exhibition featured contemporary Muslim fashion, traditional batik, innovative cosmetics, specialty coffee, premium snacks, jewelry, handicrafts, and home decorations. This diverse product range demonstrates that Indonesia is positioned to lead the transformation of the halal industry beyond its traditional focus on food and beverages.

Economic Diplomacy and Industry Evolution

According to Rafika, Indonesia’s participation in the exhibition represented a form of economic diplomacy aimed at showcasing the advancement of the country’s halal industry. The strong interest shown by potential Thai business partners and the positive feedback from exhibition visitors provided clear indicators of Indonesia’s modern, creative, and highly competitive halal industry capabilities.

Ambassador Rachmat Budiman emphasized that participating in Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 was an appropriate strategy to further promote Indonesian halal products. He noted that Indonesia’s halal sector has extraordinary potential that extends far beyond food and beverages to include lifestyle products as well.

Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises

The ambassador highlighted that participation in the exhibition served as a concrete step in supporting Indonesia’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in their efforts to expand internationally and broaden their business networks. The positive response received during the exhibition proved that the quality and creativity of Indonesian products are recognized on the international stage.

Notable Business Success Stories

During the exhibition, several Indonesian companies received exceptional recognition from visitors. Damakara, operating in the fashion sector, and PT Multi Indo Citra (Kaalia) in the cosmetics sector, attracted particularly high appreciation. Strong cooperation interests emerged from various countries around the world, including Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Japan, and Kuwait.

The success was further enhanced by business matching activities and discussion forums that effectively connected Indonesian producers with distributors and potential buyers, creating valuable networking opportunities for future business relationships.

Indonesia-Thailand Trade Relations

The broader trade relationship between Indonesia and Thailand shows substantial economic activity. For the period from January to May 2025, the total value of Indonesia-Thailand trade reached $7.86 billion. During this period, Indonesia’s exports to Thailand were recorded at $4.00 billion, while imports from Thailand totaled $3.85 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $147.10 million in favor of Indonesia.

Looking at the full year 2024, Indonesia’s total trade with Thailand recorded a value of $17.44 billion. Indonesia’s exports to Thailand reached $7.70 billion, while imports from Thailand amounted to $9.73 billion during that year.

Significance for Indonesia’s Halal Industry

This successful exhibition participation demonstrates Indonesia’s growing capabilities in the global halal market and its ability to diversify beyond traditional halal food products. The strong international interest in Indonesian halal lifestyle products, fashion, and cosmetics indicates significant opportunities for continued growth and expansion in international markets, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
