Crewe Halal Businesses Achieve Improved Food Hygiene Ratings

Two halal food establishments in Crewe have successfully improved their food hygiene ratings from one-star to three-star status following inspections by Cheshire East Council food safety officers, according to recent Food Standards Agency reports.

Establishments Show Significant Improvement

Sadaf Halal Market on Mill Street received its upgraded three-star rating on May 6, 2025, while Goomet, a Chinese takeaway located at 112-114 Nantwich Road, earned its improved rating on May 14, 2024. Both businesses had previously received one-star ratings in 2024, with Goomet facing the low rating in June and Sadaf Halal Market receiving theirs in May of that year.

Food Safety Assessment Standards

The Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, operating in partnership with local authorities across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, evaluates businesses on a scale from zero to five stars. The three-star rating achieved by both establishments indicates that standards are “generally satisfactory.”

Food safety officers from Cheshire East Council conducted comprehensive inspections of both businesses, examining three critical elements of food safety compliance.

Inspection Results Show Consistent Performance

Both Goomet and Sadaf Halal Market demonstrated identical performance across all inspection categories:

  • Hygienic Food Handling: Both establishments received “Good” ratings for their food handling practices, indicating proper procedures for preparing, storing, and serving food safely.
  • Cleanliness and Condition of Facilities: Both businesses achieved “Generally Satisfactory” ratings for the cleanliness and condition of their physical facilities and buildings.
  • Management of Food Safety: Both establishments earned “Generally Satisfactory” ratings for their management systems and procedures related to food safety oversight.

Supporting Consumer Choice Through Transparency

The FSA Food Hygiene Rating Scheme aims to help consumers make informed decisions about where to eat out or purchase food. Ratings are displayed both at business premises and online, providing transparency about food safety standards.

The improved ratings represent significant progress for both businesses, demonstrating their commitment to meeting food safety requirements and providing safe products to their customers in the Crewe community.

Both Goomet and Sadaf Halal Market were contacted for comment regarding their improved ratings by Crewe Nub News, reflecting the local media’s commitment to balanced reporting on community business developments.
