Beauty Tech: The New Revolution Transforming Global and Indonesian Beauty Industry
JAKARTA – The global beauty industry is entering a transformative era where artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, and data-driven personalization are no longer futuristic concepts but essential competitive advantages reshaping the landscape in Indonesia and worldwide.
Massive Market Growth Projected
According to a Grand View Research report cited by the Indonesian Contract Manufacturing Cosmetics Association (AKKMI), the beauty tech market is projected to grow at an average rate of 18% annually, reaching US$173 billion by 2030. This substantial figure demonstrates how technology will become one of the primary drivers of the beauty industry’s future development.
“The beauty industry today is not just about aesthetics anymore, but also the technology supporting it. Technology is not merely a tool, but a system that builds the beauty ecosystem. It shortens time, reduces costs, and maintains sustainability,” explained Halim Nababan, Chairman of AKKMI Advisory Board.
Personalization Through AI Innovation
One of beauty tech’s core strengths lies in personalization capabilities. Through AI technology, consumers can now scan their faces and immediately receive product recommendations tailored to their specific needs—from microbiome-based skincare to epigenetic skincare solutions.
Similar innovations have emerged in the makeup sector through AI shade finders, which can determine the most suitable lipstick or foundation choices matching users’ skin tones with remarkable accuracy.
Enhancing Supply Chain Efficiency
Beyond creating more intimate shopping experiences, beauty tech significantly improves supply chain efficiency. AI-based demand prediction algorithms enable manufacturers to avoid overproduction while eliminating unnecessary distribution channels.
“Previously, shipping to Papua required ten routes; now it can be reduced to just two. That’s not only cost efficiency but also sustainability,” Halim noted.
Manufacturing Innovation
For contract manufacturers like PT Immortal Cosmedika Indonesia, technology implementation extends to manufacturing lines. “If there are 50 lipstick variants, AI can accelerate the color identification process. This speeds up the cycle from laboratory to market,” said Yoga I Kasjmir, VP of Immortal Cosmedika Indonesia.
However, he emphasized that technology still has limitations, such as genetic skincare that requires complex laboratory testing.
Cosmobeauté Indonesia 2025: Beauty Tech Showcase
This issue became a major focus at Cosmobeauté Indonesia 2025. The annual beauty exhibition featured a special beauty tech segment as the industry’s new focal point.
PT Immortal, for instance, showcased cosmetoceuticals concepts and research-based cosmetics that allow products to be personalized according to individual skin conditions, even incorporating single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genetic analysis.
“Abroad, beauty technology is developing rapidly. By bringing beauty tech to Indonesia, we want local manufacturers to directly access these innovations without having to go overseas. It’s cheaper, faster, and more relevant to industry needs here,” stated Juanita Soerakoesoemah, Portfolio Director of Cosmobeauté Indonesia.
Industry Transformation Momentum
Cosmobeauté Indonesia 2025 is scheduled to take place at ICE BSD with over 500 exhibitors from 16 countries and more than 17,000 professional visitors. With renewed focus on beauty tech, this event is expected to become an important momentum for the transformation of Indonesia’s beauty industry toward the global stage.
The integration of advanced technologies like AI, biotechnology, and data analytics is not just changing how beauty products are made and sold—it’s revolutionizing the entire beauty ecosystem. From personalized skincare solutions to sustainable supply chains, beauty tech represents the future of an industry that continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace.
As Indonesia embraces these innovations, local manufacturers and consumers alike stand to benefit from more efficient, personalized, and sustainable beauty solutions that meet the demands of the modern market.
