Saudi Arabia Climbs to 10th Place in Global Universal Health Coverage Rankings

JAKARTA – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare accessibility, securing the 10th position globally in the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) service coverage index with a score of 83 points, marking a notable nine-point improvement over the past two years.

Remarkable Progress in Healthcare Indicators

Data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank reveals substantial advancement in the nation’s health outcomes. Saudi Arabia’s average life expectancy has increased dramatically from 74 years in 2016 to 79.7 years in 2025, positioning the Kingdom on track to reach its ambitious target of 80 years by 2030.

Strategic Healthcare Transformation

The impressive improvement stems from Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive healthcare strategy, which emphasizes several key priorities:

Prevention and Primary Care: The Kingdom has strengthened its focus on preventive medicine and primary healthcare services, ensuring citizens receive care before conditions become critical.

Early Detection Programs: Advanced screening and early detection initiatives have enabled healthcare providers to identify and treat diseases at their most manageable stages.

Facility Preparedness: Investments in hospital readiness and medical infrastructure have enhanced the system’s capacity to respond effectively to health challenges.

Digital Innovation Driving Access

A major contributor to Saudi Arabia’s healthcare success has been its rapid digital transformation. The implementation of national healthcare platforms has revolutionized service delivery, making medical care more accessible to citizens across the Kingdom while improving operational efficiency.

These digital systems have streamlined appointment scheduling, medical records management, and patient care coordination, reducing wait times and enhancing the overall healthcare experience.

International Recognition

The Kingdom’s healthcare excellence extends beyond statistical improvements. Saudi Arabia recently garnered 18 international awards at Geneva for hospital excellence and health sector research, further cementing its position as a regional leader in healthcare innovation and quality.

This achievement reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to Vision 2030 objectives, which prioritize citizen wellbeing and world-class healthcare delivery as fundamental pillars of national development.
