MOTW Coffee & Pastries Launches New Halal Cafe in Middletown
All-Halal Coffee Spot Expands With Purpose-Driven Vision
MOTW Coffee & Pastries, a halal coffee and pastry brand known for its Arabic-inspired menu, is opening a new location in Middletown, Connecticut at 425 Main Street this weekend. The move follows successful operations in New Haven and marks another step in the brand’s national expansion, with over 15 locations now operating across the United States.
Founded by Sajjad Shah and operated locally by siblings Bilal, Usama, Ijlal, and Zainab Aslam, the café combines specialty drinks with an inclusive atmosphere that welcomes people from all backgrounds. The company promotes the motto “Coffee with a purpose,” linking its halal offerings with community support through the nonprofit Muslims of the World.
Menu Highlights and Community Space
The menu features authentic Yemeni chai, a rich milky tea with cardamom, alongside unique items such as breakfast empanadas, Argentinian chicken and beef dishes, vegetarian samosas, and a wide assortment of Middle Eastern pastries, including traditional baklava, burma, and date ma’amoul cookies.
MOTW’s Middletown café also aims to be a social hub, offering a safe space outside typical bar scenes where customers can relax, meet friends, or attend events. The new spot caters to growing demand for halal dining options in central Connecticut and is expected to draw locals as well as university students.
Opening Details & Local Impact
The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, with regular hours set throughout the week. Beyond serving halal coffee and food, the café positions itself as part of a broader mission to foster connection, celebrate culture, and support charitable causes.
