Global Leaders Unite to Accelerate Polio Eradication Efforts
The Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA) took part in “Investing in Humanity: Uniting to End Polio,” a major global gathering held on December 8 in Abu Dhabi. Hosted by the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity in partnership with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), the event brought together world leaders, humanitarian partners, and key health organizations.
Participants collectively pledged US$1.9 billion to support the final drive toward ending polio worldwide, reducing the resource gap in GPEI’s 2022–2029 strategic plan. These contributions will help vaccinate an estimated 370 million children every year while reinforcing health systems in high-risk countries.
IFANCA Commits US$4 Million to Protect Vulnerable Communities
As part of the initiative, IFANCA pledged US$4 million to advance GPEI programs, focusing on children in underserved regions who remain at risk.
IFANCA President Dr. Muhammad Munir Chaudry emphasized that safeguarding children’s health aligns directly with the organization’s mission:
“Supporting children and protecting the most vulnerable is central to IFANCA’s mission. We are proud to renew our commitment to the global effort to end polio and to help ensure every child is reached with lifesaving protection. The last mile is the hardest, but we stand with our partners across GPEI to finish the job and create a world finally free of polio.”
World Nears Historic Public Health Breakthrough
Today, wild poliovirus remains endemic in only Afghanistan and Pakistan, signaling that the world is closer than ever to achieving complete eradication. Health specialists recognize this moment as one of the most significant milestones in modern public health.
For more than forty years, IFANCA has championed nutrition, health, and community well-being. Its continued support for polio eradication showcases a long-standing commitment to protecting children and strengthening global health outcomes.
A Shared Vision for a Polio-Free Future
IFANCA will continue working alongside international partners, mobilizing resources, and supporting vaccination programs to ensure future generations grow up free from the threat of polio.
By reinforcing its pledge at this landmark event, IFANCA stands as a key contributor in the global journey toward a polio-free world.
