Saudi Arabia’s Jabal Al Lawz Experiences First Snowfall of 2025

JAKARTA – The mountainous region of Jabal Al Lawz in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, witnessed significant snowfall on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, marking the first snow event of the year. The area experienced dense fog accompanied by powerful winds, with temperatures plummeting to -4 degrees Celsius during the storm.

Rare Spectacle Attracts Visitors

According to Saudi Gazette reports, the initial 2025 snowfall transformed the Trojena Plateau and surrounding areas in Tabuk, turning the desert mountains into a stunning winter wonderland. The snow blanketed the rocky peaks across the northern region, creating an extraordinary spectacle rarely seen in this arid landscape.

The snowfall has established Jabal Al Lawz as a sought-after winter destination. The pristine white scenery and frigid conditions attract numerous local residents and tourists eager to capture photographs of this remarkable phenomenon. Despite the typically dry climate, visitors make the journey to witness this distinctive seasonal occurrence.

The Almond Mountain’s Annual Phenomenon

Jabal Al Lawz, translating to “almond mountain,” rises 2,580 meters above sea level in northwestern Saudi Arabia. The mountain has gained recognition for its annual snowfall, offering breathtaking winter vistas that continue to captivate visitors from throughout the Kingdom.

Weather Warnings Issued Across Multiple Regions

The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) released a weather advisory on Wednesday, indicating potential light snow and frost across portions of the Tabuk and Hail plateaus. Comparable weather patterns were anticipated in the northeastern sections of the Madinah plateau.

The meteorological report also highlighted overcast conditions with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms across western and southwestern territories. Officials continue to track these weather systems as they progress through the Kingdom.

Flash Flood Risk and Reduced Visibility Expected

Weather authorities cautioned about moderate to severe thunderstorms potentially triggering flash flooding. These storms may bring hail and powerful gusts affecting areas including Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and the Northern Borders region.

Additionally, moderate precipitation is forecast for portions of Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Hail, and Qassim. Fog formation in these zones could significantly reduce visibility for motorists traveling on primary roadways.
