JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik), Indonesia’s state-owned railway logistics company, is accelerating its expansion of halal-certified terminals as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the country’s halal logistics ecosystem. This initiative represents a significant step toward providing distribution services that are not only reliable and efficient but also compliant with government-mandated halal principles and regulations.

Current Certification Status

KAI Logistik has successfully obtained halal certification from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) for its distribution services under certification number ID00410018283070424. The certification currently covers three major terminals:

  • Sungai Lagoa Terminal (Jakarta)
  • Klari Terminal (Karawang)
  • Kalimas Terminal (Surabaya)

2025 Expansion Plans

The company has set ambitious targets for 2025, with plans to certify its fourth terminal – the Ronggowarsito Freight Terminal in Semarang. The certification process for this facility is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, further expanding the company’s halal logistics network across Java.

Strategic Vision

According to Fredi Firmansyah, CEO of KAI Logistik, the expansion of halal-certified terminals is integral to the company’s long-term vision. “We want to ensure that our customers, particularly those in the halal industry, have complete confidence in our product distribution processes,” Firmansyah stated. “This initiative aligns with halal regulatory mandates, including Ministry of Religious Affairs Decree No. 748 of 2021 and No. 944 of 2024.”

Industry Recognition

The initiative has garnered significant recognition from industry experts. Agus Suryanto, Head of the Halal Inspection Institution at PT Sucofindo, praised KAI Logistik as the first state-owned enterprise in the logistics sector to actively and consistently promote halal standards in distribution services. “KAI Logistik has demonstrated exceptional commitment to ensuring halal products are distributed according to sharia principles,” Suryanto commented.

Significance for Indonesia’s Halal Economy

This expansion comes at a crucial time as Indonesia continues to position itself as a global leader in the halal economy. The development of halal-certified logistics infrastructure is essential for maintaining the integrity of halal products throughout the supply chain, from production to final distribution.

The certification ensures that halal products remain uncontaminated and compliant with Islamic dietary laws throughout the transportation and storage process, providing assurance to both domestic and international halal product consumers.

Future Outlook

KAI Logistik’s proactive approach to halal certification reflects the growing importance of religious compliance in Indonesia’s logistics sector. As the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, Indonesia’s commitment to developing robust halal logistics infrastructure not only serves domestic needs but also positions the nation as a key player in the global halal supply chain.

The company’s systematic approach to terminal certification demonstrates how state-owned enterprises can lead by example in implementing government policies while meeting the evolving needs of Indonesia’s diverse consumer base.

This expansion initiative underscores the intersection of logistics efficiency and religious compliance, setting a precedent for other logistics companies in Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asian region.
