The brand’s name derives from the Malay term “Abang,” which translates to “older brother” or corresponds to “Kuya” in Filipino culture, reflecting the company’s approach to building familial connections with its target market.
Product Portfolio and Market Focus
Abang J specializes in halal-certified convenience foods, including ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook meal options. The company’s signature offering is satay—marinated meat skewers prepared according to traditional grilling methods. These products are specifically designed to serve Mindanao’s Muslim population, which represents a significant consumer segment within the region’s halal market ecosystem.
The company’s market entry strategy focuses on meeting the dietary requirements mandated by Islamic Sharia law, which governs halal food preparation and sourcing standards.
Government Support and Regional Development
The Philippine government, under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has prioritized halal industry development as a cornerstone of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028.
