BPJPH Expands Collaboration for National Halal Industry Development

JAKARTA – The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) has taken significant steps to accelerate the development of Indonesia’s national halal industry through the signing of collaborative agreements with ten strategic partners. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to positioning Indonesia as a global halal industry hub.

Ahmad Haikal Hassan, who leads BPJPH, emphasized that this cross-sector partnership—involving government agencies, higher education institutions, religious organizations, and industry players—represents a key strategy for optimizing the economic potential of halal as a driver of national growth.

In his statement at the BPJPH office on Tuesday (7/10/2025), Hassan stressed that the fundamental principle of halal certification lies in transparency and openness. “The characteristics of halal create a system that can be traced and trusted. This will make the halal sector an engine for our economic growth,” he explained.

Hassan added that Indonesian halal products have significant opportunities in the global market. “We are building a system that ensures Indonesian-made products are accepted in international markets with high competitiveness. Concrete evidence can already be seen from the many domestic business actors who have successfully penetrated foreign markets,” he said.

Cross-Ministry Support

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk emphasized the importance of comprehensive oversight of all products circulating in Indonesia, both through conventional and digital channels, domestic and cross-border. According to her, this has become crucial given that Indonesia is now integrated into the global trade system.

“Coordination between BPJPH and related ministries must continue to be strengthened. The agreement signed today will be cascaded down to the local government level across all 38 provinces. The Ministry of Home Affairs provides full support for BPJPH’s work agenda,” she affirmed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito Abimanyu highlighted the vital role of Islamic financial systems in supporting the growth of the halal sector. “The collaboration between BPJPH and the Ministry of Finance is highly strategic. Halal product development will not reach its maximum potential without support from financial services that comply with sharia principles,” he said.

Abimanyu also underscored that Islamic economic development is inclusive and does not limit itself to specific segments. “Our approach no longer makes distinctions based on religious background. This must be integrated into the state’s financial structure, including Public Service Agencies, so it can drive growth from various sectors,” he explained.

Long-Term Vision

By integrating various sectors—from government regulations, human resource development through educational institutions, Islamic financial support, to promotion and field implementation—Indonesia seeks to create a comprehensive and competitive halal value chain in the international market.

These steps are also expected to increase domestic and global consumer confidence in Indonesian halal products, while opening wider economic opportunities for business actors at all levels, from MSMEs to large corporations.
