MLLe Lebanese Restaurant: Does Riyadh’s Michelin-Listed Venue Live Up to the Hype?
MLLe, a Lebanese restaurant in Riyadh, was recently listed in the Saudi Arabian Michelin guide. The question is whether the recognition is justified.
Prime Location with Appealing Design
The restaurant occupies a central location in the Laysen Valley business complex. The space is compact and limited to indoor seating, but the design delivers visual appeal.
The atmosphere buzzes with energy, featuring intricately carved ceilings and colorful tableware enhancing the aesthetic experience. Due to its popularity, advance reservations are recommended.
Service Meets Standards Without Exceeding Expectations
Service operates at standard, functional levels. Staff members demonstrate menu knowledge and can offer recommendations, but the service itself lacks memorable qualities.
Menu Highlights Showcase Creative Takes on Classics
On the menu, the standout starter is the wagyu hummus, presented with meticulous attention to detail. Next comes the passionfruit tabbouleh, which delivers refreshing, flavorful notes, though slightly sour. The batata harra, featuring well-seasoned, crispy potato cubes, earns strong recommendations.
Another notable offering is the taco shawarma, providing a contemporary interpretation of a classic Middle Eastern staple. Other starters, including warak enab, smoked fattoush, and burrata, register as standard fare.
Main Courses Deliver Visual Appeal Over Distinction
For mains, we sampled the staff-recommended shish tawook. The dish presents visual appeal and arrives served over crispy fries, suitable for sharing. The flavors achieve balance, but lack particular distinction; superior mixed grill options exist throughout the city.
For beverages, the fresh juices merit recommendations, especially the pomegranate juice and classic Lebanese lemonade.
Desserts Fall Short, Alternative Suggested
Desserts at MLLe prove unremarkable. We suggest walking across the street to NAC for their warm chocolate-chip cookies with cereal-infused ice cream — a satisfying conclusion to the meal.
Premium Positioning Justified by Quality, Ambiance
MLLe positions itself as a premium, fine-dining experience. Compared to neighboring restaurants, the prices find justification in ingredient quality and decorative atmosphere.
Overall, considering the food quality, menu variety, service standards, and ambiance, MLLe’s inclusion in the Michelin Guide appears reasonable.
