Indonesia Positions Halal Certification as Economic Growth Engine

BPJPH Chief Outlines Vision for Global Halal Leadership by 2045

Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), has positioned halal certification as a critical tool for economic strengthening while advancing Indonesia’s ambitions to become the world’s premier halal hub.

Speaking in a statement Thursday, Hasan explained that halal certification transcends mere consumer protection, representing substantial opportunities for regional business advancement.

“Halal products will be better received in the global market and strengthen the regional economic competitiveness,” he noted.

Regional Governments Hold Critical Implementation Role

Hasan stressed that local governments play an essential part in accelerating halal certification adoption, particularly through facilitating certification access for micro enterprises alongside integrating regional policies within the national halal framework.

The mandatory halal certification framework operates under Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, complemented by Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 on implementation guidelines. These legislative measures support Indonesia’s objective of establishing global halal dominance as part of the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.

Under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, the halal mandate receives full implementation as a foundational element of national halal economic development.

“It is time for us to show the world that Indonesia is ready to lead the global halal sector,” Hasan declared.

Digitalization Strategy Targets Transparency, Efficiency

The BPJPH chief emphasized the significance of information dissemination, collaborative partnerships, regulatory enhancements, alongside halal service digitalization. He characterized digitalization as a strategic initiative creating service transparency while ensuring certification processes remain free from illegal levies.

Hasan confirmed that BPJPH’s policy trajectory for 2025-2029 aligns with the Medium-Term National Development Plan spanning the same period, encompassing halal ecosystem fortification alongside transforming halal product assurance implementation mechanisms.
