Six Flags Qiddiya Set to Launch as Saudi Arabia’s First Major Theme Park

JAKARTA – Saudi Arabia will open its inaugural large-scale theme park on December 31, as Qiddiya Investment Company prepares to unveil Six Flags Qiddiya. Managing Director Abdullah Aldawood announced the opening date during a press conference held at the venue on December 22.

Flagship Entertainment Destination

Six Flags Qiddiya City represents a central element of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy. Spanning 320,000 square meters, the facility will launch with 28 attractions distributed across six themed zones. Operating under a management agreement with Six Flags Entertainment, the park features Falcon’s Flight—the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster—alongside family-oriented rides and 29 dining establishments.

According to Aldawood, the venue will hold five global records among its attractions. Construction has reached completion, with the adjacent Aquarabia water park more than 95% finished.

Phased Development Strategy

This opening initiates a planned rollout of 70 assets within Qiddiya’s broader development framework, with future launch dates to be disclosed progressively. The project serves as a foundational component of Saudi Arabia’s entertainment and tourism expansion under Vision 2030.

Aldawood detailed advancement on the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium ahead of World Cup preparations, plus construction of 20 hospitality properties scheduled to open in upcoming phases.

Infrastructure Milestones

The development’s first infrastructure phase has been completed, incorporating road networks, electrical systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and emergency response services.

Phase two is currently underway, encompassing an internal road network exceeding 100 kilometers, construction of 13 electrical substations, and expansion of the potable water distribution system.

Strategic Positioning

Located 40 kilometers from Riyadh, Qiddiya stands among Saudi Arabia’s major giga-projects aimed at establishing the Kingdom as an international hub for entertainment and athletics. The multi-phase development will ultimately integrate theme parks, sports venues, cultural facilities, and hospitality infrastructure.

The project reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to diversifying its economy beyond petroleum revenues while creating new employment opportunities and attracting international tourism.
