Kawaguchiko, Japan – Turkish businesses looking to expand their presence in the global halal market have a significant opportunity on the horizon. The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025, scheduled for September 17-20 in Kuala Lumpur, is positioned as a strategic platform for Turkish companies to forge partnerships with Malaysian suppliers and tap into the expanding halal products sector.

Bilateral Trade Shows Remarkable Growth

Recent economic data highlights the flourishing trade relationship between Malaysia and Türkiye, particularly in the food sector. January 2025 figures reveal that total food product trade between the two nations reached USD 154.93 million—a dramatic 55.3% increase compared to the USD 99.76 million recorded in January 2024. This growth trend was balanced, with Malaysian exports to Türkiye climbing 57.6% while imports from Türkiye rose by 33.4%.

“The remarkable growth in food product trade between our countries reflects the tremendous opportunities within the global halal industry,” explained Sadat Foster Maad, Director of MATRADE Istanbul. “With the sector projected to reach USD 5 trillion by 2030 according to the Global Islamic Economic Indicators 2023 report, both Malaysia and Türkiye are strategically positioned to collaborate and meet increasing demand in this expanding market.”

Malaysia’s Leadership in the Halal Sector

Malaysia has established itself as a global authority in the halal industry, largely due to its internationally recognized certification system that ensures compliance with the highest quality standards. The country’s government has implemented comprehensive support through strategic initiatives including the 12th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, and MATRADE’s National Trade Blueprint.

These efforts, combined with Malaysia’s advantageous geographic position and diverse population, have enabled the country to develop robust trade connections throughout the region. The nation has successfully created a thriving export ecosystem that attracts international businesses seeking premium halal products and services.

“Malaysia’s focused strategy on becoming a global halal hub has yielded impressive results,” Maad noted. “Building on this foundation, we’re now gaining significant momentum in high-value segments including halal pharmaceuticals, logistics, and food technology, which is diversifying our export portfolio and setting the stage for substantial growth in coming years.”

MIHAS 2025: The World’s Largest Halal Trade Exhibition

The 21st edition of MIHAS, organized by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. As the world’s largest halal trade show, MIHAS plays a crucial role in strengthening Malaysia’s standing as a global hub and premier supplier of halal products and services.

MATRADE Istanbul has extended a special invitation to Turkish buyers, importers, and distributors to participate in the International Sourcing Programme (INSP)—a customized business matching event connecting international participants with Malaysian suppliers, manufacturers, exporters, and service providers.

The effectiveness of this program was demonstrated at MIHAS 2024, where connections between 330 international buyers and 800 Malaysian sellers generated potential sourcing value of RM 2.52 billion (USD 568.51 million).
