Deputy Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Kreshnik Ahmeti of Kosovo is conducting a two-day official working visit to Malaysia from July 24-25, 2025. This diplomatic mission follows the groundwork established during Kosovo President Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu’s official visit to Malaysia in May, demonstrating the countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relationships.

Ahmeti’s agenda includes high-level discussions with Malaysian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, focusing on expanding cooperation in several critical areas. The Kosovo official’s itinerary extends beyond traditional diplomatic channels to include meetings with Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry. Additionally, Ahmeti will engage with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on International Relations and International Trade, ensuring comprehensive coverage of potential cooperation areas across different government levels.

Halal Industry Collaboration Takes Center Stage

A significant component of the visit involves direct engagement with Malaysia’s Halal Development Corporation. This meeting aims to explore specific collaboration opportunities within the halal sector, leveraging Malaysia’s established expertise and international recognition in halal certification and industry development to benefit Kosovo’s emerging participation in global halal markets.

Current Trade Relationship Shows Growth Potential

The existing trade relationship between Malaysia and Kosovo totaled RM28.55 million (approximately US$6.26 million) in 2024. Malaysia maintained a significant trade surplus, with exports to Kosovo valued at RM25.92 million, consisting primarily of palm oil products, electrical and electronic goods, and various manufactured items.

Kosovo’s exports to Malaysia were valued at RM2.63 million in 2024, focusing mainly on raw materials and semi-precious stones. This trade composition suggests opportunities for expanded collaboration that could diversify both countries’ export portfolios and create new economic partnerships in specialized sectors.

• Islamic Finance and Investment Opportunities

The emphasis on Islamic finance discussions reflects both countries’ interest in developing Sharia-compliant financial instruments and investment vehicles.
