Uzbekistan Launches Its First Internationally Accredited Halal Certification Body

A Milestone for Uzbekistan’s Halal Industry

For the first time in the nation’s history, Uzbekistan has established an internationally recognized Halal certification body, marking a major step toward aligning the country with global Halal standards.

The Uzbek Scientific-Testing and Quality Control Center (UzTest) has officially obtained accreditation from Türkiye’s Halal Accreditation Authority (HAA), making it Uzbekistan’s first official Halal certification institution. The announcement was confirmed through the HAA’s official website.

Accreditation in Line with Global Standards

The accreditation was granted under the OIC/SMIIC 2:2019 international standard, titled “Conformity Assessment: Requirements for Halal Certification Bodies.”

This recognition ensures that UzTest operates according to globally accepted protocols, enabling Uzbek businesses to expand into international Halal markets more efficiently. It also helps reduce technical trade barriers and strengthens consumer confidence in certified products.

Boosting Global Trade and Consumer Trust

The development is expected to have a direct impact on Uzbekistan’s export potential, especially among member states of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).
Through standardized Halal certification, Uzbekistan can now participate more actively in the global Halal supply chain, enhancing the credibility and competitiveness of its domestic industries.

Halal Sector: A Growing Global Market

Experts emphasize that the Halal economy represents one of the fastest-growing segments of global trade. The Halal food and beverage sector alone is valued at approximately US$2 trillion, while religious tourism contributes an additional US$400 billion annually.

By establishing an internationally accredited body, Uzbekistan is strategically positioning itself to tap into these lucrative markets and strengthen its reputation as a trustworthy player in the global Halal ecosystem.

Integrating Uzbekistan into the International Halal Framework

The creation of an accredited Halal certification body not only enhances product quality and export potential, but also symbolizes Uzbekistan’s commitment to global Islamic standards.
This initiative is expected to foster foreign partnerships, increase investor confidence, and expand the country’s trade networks across the Muslim world.
