Indonesia Positioned to Lead Global Halal Industry Through Ecosystem Integration
Strategic Collaboration Key to Capturing Global Market Share
Indonesia possesses substantial potential to emerge as a dominant force in the global halal industry supply chain by establishing a robust and unified national halal ecosystem. This pivotal role demands collaboration among government entities, business operators, and other relevant stakeholders.
Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), explained that halal has evolved beyond religious compliance into an economic powerhouse driving worldwide trade expansion. “In many countries, halal is seen as a standard of quality, safety, and health,” he stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Multi-Sector Halal Industry Experiences Rapid Growth
The halal industry’s swift development spans diverse sectors, extending from food to fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism. Demand for halal products continues escalating as consumers increasingly embrace and adopt halal lifestyles.
Haikal emphasized the critical importance of strategic partnerships between government and business entities, particularly the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), to expand the halal ecosystem. This partnership targets accelerating the MSME certification process while enhancing domestic products’ competitiveness on the global stage.
Transparency, Consumer Protection Drive Market Confidence
Haikal also stressed the necessity of information transparency for consumers, mandating that certified halal products display halal labels, while non-halal products must be clearly marked as such. This approach provides certainty and protection for both consumers and business operators.
“The halal economy can only grow if the certainty, trust, and protection of consumers work together,” he declared.
Haikal expressed optimism that through comprehensive stakeholder collaboration, Indonesia can actualize its vision as a global halal center, positioning the halal economy as a primary engine for inclusive and sustainable national development.
