Turkish-Saudi Partnership Takes Center Stage at Global Halal Industry Summit
JAKARTA – A significant step forward in economic partnership unfolded last Friday when Turkish and Saudi business leaders convened at a specialized forum in Istanbul, exploring fresh avenues for commercial collaboration within the rapidly expanding halal industry.
The gathering took place during the 11th World Halal Summit, where representatives from both nations examined concrete proposals and strategic sectors aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relationships. The summit itself, running from late November through month’s end, centered on the theme of advancing the halal industry through innovative approaches and quality standards.
Strategic Economic Cooperation
The business forum, organized by Türkiye’s Foreign Economic Relations Board, brought together prominent figures from Turkish and Saudi commercial sectors. Discussions focused on identifying untapped business opportunities, sector-specific potential, and investment possibilities that could substantially increase trade volumes between the two countries.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz emphasized the nation’s competitive positioning in the halal marketplace, highlighting its robust industrial foundation, skilled workforce, and extensive industry experience. Speaking through recorded remarks, he noted the sector’s remarkable growth trajectory, with the global halal economy now surpassing the $7 trillion mark.
Global Halal Market Evolution
The expanding worldwide demand for halal-compliant products and services reflects a broader shift toward production methods emphasizing cleanliness, safety, and health-conscious practices. These standards, rooted in Islamic principles, have demonstrated their viability across social and economic dimensions, attracting interest far beyond Muslim-majority populations.
According to officials, halal certification standards have matured into frameworks addressing not only the requirements of Islamic communities but also meeting broader international consumer expectations. This evolution has positioned the halal economy as a strategic domain that enhances manufacturing quality, builds commercial trust, and fosters new collaborative opportunities among nations.
Türkiye has played an instrumental role in establishing international halal accreditation bodies, contributing to frameworks recognized as global benchmarks. These efforts include helping create multilateral recognition systems for halal certificates based on internationally accepted standards.
The summit received backing from Türkiye’s presidential office and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, alongside participation from the Turkish Trade Ministry and the Halal Accreditation Agency, underscoring the high-level commitment to advancing this economic sector.
