Arab Audit Organizations Convene in Saudi Arabia for Regional Assembly
JAKARTA – The Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions launched its 15th General Assembly this week in Jeddah, with Saudi Arabia’s General Court of Audit leading the proceedings in its capacity as the organization’s current chair.
Representatives from supreme audit bodies across all Arab nations have assembled for the multi-day conference, which runs through Thursday. International and regional organizational delegates are also participating in the gathering at the Makkah Province venue.
Call for Institutional Modernization
Dr. Hussam Alangari, who serves as both President of Saudi Arabia’s General Court of Audit and ARABOSAI Chairman, delivered opening remarks emphasizing the imperative for Arab audit institutions to evolve alongside rapid global changes in economic and technological spheres.
He urged attendees to continuously reassess operational approaches and embrace emerging technologies and resources to maximize institutional effectiveness and fulfill their oversight responsibilities at the highest standards.
The Saudi official stressed that such regional gatherings play a vital role in fostering collaboration among peer institutions throughout the Arab world, ultimately strengthening ARABOSAI’s position internationally while contributing to improved governmental operations and public financial stewardship across member nations.
Vision 2030 Framework
Dr. Alangari referenced Saudi Arabia’s ongoing national transformation under Vision 2030, noting the kingdom’s commitment to establishing comprehensive transparency and governance excellence across all government sectors.
He expressed the General Court of Audit’s eagerness to share accumulated expertise and international best practices developed during its own institutional evolution, demonstrating dedication to advancing collective regional objectives and ARABOSAI’s strategic priorities.
Assembly Business and Elections
The opening session addressed multiple agenda items, including Dr. Alangari’s report on organizational activities and strategic plan implementation since the previous assembly. Participants reviewed the General Secretariat’s report and examined the 2023-2028 strategic framework while approving upcoming work programs.
Elections were conducted to select Governing Board members for the new term, which begins at the 70th Governing meeting scheduled to follow the assembly’s conclusion. The session is anticipated to produce recommendations and resolutions aimed at strengthening inter-institutional cooperation and enhancing member organizations’ audit performance.
Technical Symposium Scheduled
A companion technical symposium is planned for Wednesday, focusing on capacity-building experiences within supreme audit institutions. The event will explore strategic directions for developing professional capabilities among audit personnel in Arab countries and assess training program effectiveness through presentations by specialist speakers during panel discussions.
