Saudi Arabia and Qatar Reach Agreement on High-Speed Rail Link

By Arab News

Airport Link Cuts Travel Time

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have signed an agreement to develop a high-speed rail line, marking the first rail connection between the two Gulf neighbors. The deal was announced following talks in Riyadh between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani under the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council.

The planned railway will link King Salman International Airport in Riyadh with Hamad International Airport in Doha, reducing travel time between the two capitals to around two hours.

According to a joint statement, the project is scheduled for completion within six years. Once in operation, it is expected to generate about 30,000 jobs in both countries while serving more than 10 million passengers each year.

The meeting took place at Al-Yamamah Palace, where both leaders co-chaired the eighth session of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council. Sheikh Tamim was accompanied by Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani alongside a senior official delegation.
