Halal Cosmetics Industry Takes Center Stage as 2026 Deadline Approaches
JAKARTA – Consumer awareness of halal products is expanding beyond food and beverages to encompass the cosmetics industry. The Indonesian government has set October 2026 as the deadline for all cosmetic products circulating in the country to obtain halal certification. This mandate is pushing industry players to strengthen their standards, supply chains, and innovation to remain relevant in the marketplace.
Beyond Regulatory Compliance
For the cosmetics industry, halal certification represents more than just a regulatory obligation—it has become a crucial component in building consumer trust. Today’s halal cosmetics have evolved beyond being merely a symbol of religious values; they now represent guarantees of quality, safety, and ethical production that emphasizes environmental sustainability and cruelty-free practices.
Victoria Care Indonesia’s Halal Commitment
As part of this ecosystem, PT Victoria Care Indonesia Tbk (VICI) has positioned halal aspects as a priority in product development. This commitment is realized through the implementation of a Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH), which includes selecting halal raw materials, maintaining hygienic production processes, and operating production facilities that meet Good Cosmetic Manufacturing Practice (CPKB) standards.
The company also provides public education facilities such as Oemah Herborist, a factory tour destination that allows the community to witness firsthand the manufacturing process of cosmetic and body care products adhering to halal standards while maintaining quality and safety. The company strives to present products that are not only safe and high-quality but also comply with halal standards.
“For us, halal is not merely an administrative requirement, but a commitment to building consumer trust. From raw materials, production processes, to distribution chains, we ensure compliance with applicable halal standards, both for products marketed in Indonesia and those exported abroad,” stated Sumardi Widjaja, President Director of PT Victoria Care Indonesia Tbk.
International Recognition
The company’s commitment to implementing halal standards in cosmetic and body care products has already received international recognition through the ‘Ladies in Islam Award’ in Tanzania last April.
Industry-Wide Transformation
As the cosmetics industry prepares to meet the mandatory halal certification requirement by October 2026, companies like VICI continue to strengthen their commitment to consistently produce safe and quality halal cosmetics. This transformation reflects a broader shift in the industry, where halal certification is increasingly viewed as a competitive advantage and a mark of excellence rather than simply a compliance checkbox.
The movement toward comprehensive halal certification demonstrates Indonesia’s position as a leader in the global halal cosmetics market, setting standards that prioritize both religious observance and product excellence for consumers nationwide and beyond.
