The Halal Science Center of Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), organized the Thailand Halal Assembly 2025 (THA2025) on December 18–19, 2025, at Al Meroz Hotel in Bangkok. Now entering its 12th year, the event was held under the theme “Green Halal Beyond Sustainability,”highlighting a forward-looking approach to halal industry development that integrates environmental responsibility, Islamic principles, social values, and innovation to enhance Thailand’s halal standards on a global scale.

Dr. Pornpimol Mahamad, Director of the Halal Science Center and Chair of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that THA2025 remains an important platform for knowledge exchange across halal science, technology, social sciences, food safety, and environmental sustainability. She noted that the assembly aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Thailand’s halal industry by supporting balanced and sustainable growth that aligns academic advancement with the rapidly expanding global halal market.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Surapong Namchaitruchipong, Assistant Minister of Industry, and attended by prominent national and international figures. Among them were His Excellency Arun Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand; H.E. Mr. Ihsan Ovut, Secretary General of SMIIC; Pol. Maj. Gen. Surin Palare, Secretary General of CICOT; Prof. Dr. Pradermchai Kongkam, Assistant to the President of Chulalongkorn University, representing the University President; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Winai Dahlan, Founder and Advisor to the Director of the Halal Science Center. The event also welcomed representatives from halal certification bodies, government institutions, the private sector, and international experts.

THA2025 featured a wide range of academic and professional activities, including the International Halal Science and Technology Conference (IHSATEC 2025 – the 18th HASIB) and academic exhibitions held under the theme “Green Halal Economy: Beyond Sustainability.” These sessions showcased how halal principles can contribute to global environmental restoration while opening new business opportunities for environmentally conscious consumers worldwide.

The program also included the IMT–GT WGHAPAS International Workshop, a strategic meeting under the Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT–GT) framework. This workshop focused on strengthening regional cooperation, safeguarding halal integrity, promoting sustainable practices, and facilitating knowledge transfer among participating countries.

In addition, participants took part in the Green Halal Workshop titled “Green Halal Make-Your-Own Beauty,” where experts from Herbalstudio guided attendees through hands-on product creation, allowing them to produce and take home their own items.

During the assembly, academic cooperation agreements were signed between the Halal Science Center of Chulalongkorn University and partner organizations from 12 countries, covering joint research, knowledge sharing, and personnel exchange in halal science. The event also featured presentations and competitions showcasing more than 70 research projects submitted by researchers and students from 34 countries.

Selected research papers will be published in the Journal of Halal Science, Industry and Business (JHASIB), an international academic journal indexed in ASCI, the ICI Journals Master List, and Google Scholar, and currently under evaluation for inclusion in the Scopus database.
