Kawaguchiko, Japan – A self-proclaimed “100% halal” butcher shop in Bobigny, France has been shuttered since New Year’s Eve following a shocking discovery by food safety inspectors. Officials found wild boar meat—strictly forbidden in halal dietary laws—along with numerous health violations at the Avenue Jean-Jaurès establishment.

Multiple Violations Uncovered

The inspection revealed a troubling list of infractions beyond the non-halal meat discovery. Health officials documented “proliferation of pests,” “poor hygiene conditions,” and improper food storage practices throughout the facility.

Most alarming for Muslim customers was the discovery of 14 wild boar carcasses on the premises. Inspectors also seized vacuum-sealed portions of the meat stored in refrigeration units. None of the pork products bore the mandatory veterinary inspection stamps required by French law.

Community Expresses Outrage

Local residents who had trusted the shop to provide halal-certified meat expressed profound disappointment and anger.

“There is no respect for our religion,” said Leance, a regular customer who is now considering legal action against the owner. “He welcomed us with a smile, and then he did this to us?”

Students who frequented the shop for affordable meals were equally dismayed. “We bought chicken wings for 50 cents. The whole school came here,” said one student. Another added simply, “Honestly, it’s ridiculous.”

History of Violations

This closure marks the third time authorities have taken action against the establishment. Similar violations led to temporary closures in both 2021 and 2023, establishing a pattern of non-compliance with food safety and religious certification standards.

Some community members claimed they had already stopped patronizing the shop due to quality concerns. “It stinks. It’s dirty. The meat is black,” noted one former customer who had previously switched to other suppliers.

Current Status

The butcher shop remains closed with official “SEIZURE” tape across its entrance, attracting curious onlookers who learned about the incident through social media. Local authorities have not announced when—or if—the establishment will be permitted to reopen.

The case highlights the importance of proper oversight in halal food certification and the serious consequences of violating both religious dietary guidelines and public health standards.
