Indonesian food and beverage company Niramas Utama, which owns the Inaco brand, has formed a strategic partnership with Japanese companies Tarami Corporation and Kawasho Foods Corporation to jointly enter the halal product export market. This collaboration will be conducted through Niramas Pandaan Sejahtera (NPS), a subsidiary of Niramas Utama.
Tarami Corporation is Japan’s leading jelly manufacturer under DyDo Group Holdings, Inc., while Kawasho Foods serves as its raw material procurement partner. NPS President Adhi S. Lukman explained that Tarami and Kawasho were seeking partners to enhance their halal product line to meet growing global market demand.
Production Facility and Export Markets
The partnership involves establishing a production facility in Indonesia to supply halal jelly products to multiple countries. Current export targets include 10 countries: Thailand, the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, and the Philippines. The joint venture also aims to export to the UK and Macau.
Previously, Tarami and Kawasho had exported jelly products to various countries but without halal certification. Adhi told reporters that the Japanese companies hope to expand their market share through this collaboration with Niramas, including in the Indonesian domestic market.
“Currently, our products are 100% exported because they (Tarami and Kawasho) prioritize export demand. We’ve discussed and agreed on domestic sales,” Adhi stated.
Investment and Production Capacity
The first batch of products has been exported with initial orders worth $1.3 million. In terms of production investment, Niramas has invested 60 billion rupiah, while its two partners contributed an additional 15 billion rupiah.
Adhi assured that the factory’s production system can manufacture products of quality equivalent to Tarami’s Nagasaki factory in Japan. He noted that one production line of the Niramas-Tarami-Kawasho joint venture can produce approximately 3 million cups monthly.
“This is just one production line that they’re working to develop. The scale isn’t large yet, but demand must be met first. If capacity is full, they’ll add more. We hope they continue increasing investment,” Adhi explained.
Quality Standards and Halal Certification
Tarami Corporation President Yutaka Wada stated that the partnership with Niramas will create a cup jelly production ecosystem that meets Muslim consumers’ halal requirements. He ensured that halal-certified products maintain Japanese quality standards to satisfy global market demands.
“We maintain the same quality as domestic production at our Konagai factory in Nagasaki, Japan. Under Niramas factory supervision, overseas production also meets our safety, security, and excellence standards,” Wada said.
Government Support and Industry Development
At the same event, Deputy Industry Minister Faisol Riza praised the collaboration between Niramas, Tarami, and Kawasho. He noted that partnerships with multinational companies promote domestic industry development, not only in investment but also in technology and knowledge transfer.
Faisol welcomed the commitment to use local raw materials to meet domestic content standards (TKDN).
“We hope this aspect continues to improve. Tarami and Kawasho are also committed to exploring our biodiversity potential, transforming it into raw materials for future food and beverage products.”
Global Market Opportunities
The partnership also highlights opportunities for developing the halal product industry, which is gaining increasing attention in global markets. Before establishing the partnership with Niramas, Tarami and Kawasho had considered setting up production facilities in other countries like Malaysia and Thailand.
“But they ultimately chose Indonesia. This demonstrates very high trust from global companies in the food and beverage industry. This is important because many people still doubt whether cooperation with Indonesia’s halal industry will encounter obstacles. In fact, cooperation can proceed smoothly,” the report concluded.
