| By The Express Tribune

Five-Year Plan Requires Over Half a Million Livestock and $140 Million Investment

The federal government has set an ambitious target to export $520 million worth of halal meat to Malaysia over the next five years, positioning the halal meat sector as a key driver of export growth.

Officials said halal meat has been designated a priority export sector, with a comprehensive plan in place to ship 130,000 metric tons of meat to Malaysia during the five-year period, generating substantial foreign exchange earnings.

Livestock and Investment Requirements

To meet the export target, the plan estimates the need for approximately 552,000 livestock animals dedicated to meat exports.

In addition, a total investment of $140 million will be required to strengthen the livestock and meat processing sector. Of this amount:

  • $80 million is expected to come from the private sector
  • $60 million will be contributed by the government

The investment will focus on improving production capacity, processing infrastructure, and compliance with halal standards to meet Malaysian market requirements.
