Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesia’s halal product exports to Australia have demonstrated remarkable growth momentum in the first quarter of 2025, according to recent trade ministry figures. The Southeast Asian nation recorded halal export revenues of $156.81 million to Australia between January and March, marking a substantial 13.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

Sustained Growth Trajectory

This positive performance builds on Indonesia’s already impressive track record in the Australian halal market. Throughout 2024, Indonesian halal exports to Australia totaled $634.5 million, reflecting consistent market expansion. Trade ministry data reveals that halal exports to Australia have maintained steady growth, averaging an 8.06% annual increase over the past five years.

Strategic Partnership Initiative

To capitalize on this growing demand, Indonesian authorities have forged a strategic alliance with Global Australian Halal Certification (GAHC), an organization founded by Indonesian expatriates in Australia. This two-year cooperation agreement aims to expand market penetration and create new opportunities for Indonesian halal products in the Australian consumer market.

The partnership focuses on three key areas: marketing initiatives, promotional strategy development, and streamlined distribution processes. Indonesian trade officials expect this collaboration to unlock additional market potential and strengthen the presence of Indonesian halal products across Australia.

SME Development Focus

As part of its broader halal export strategy, Indonesia’s Trade Ministry has set an ambitious target of issuing 1,000 halal certificates specifically for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This initiative aims to enable more Indonesian businesses to participate in the lucrative halal export market and meet international certification standards.

Global Halal Export Performance

Indonesia’s success in Australia reflects its strong position in the global halal market. In 2024, the country’s worldwide halal product exports were dominated by food products, which generated $41.9 billion in revenue. Other significant categories included modest fashion ($8.28 billion), pharmaceutical products ($730 million), and cosmetics ($430 million).

The strong performance in Australia, combined with Indonesia’s overall global halal export figures, underscores the country’s growing influence in the international halal market and its ability to meet diverse consumer demands across different regions.
