By Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR – Roughly 80 participants gathered in Kuala Lumpur for a seminar designed to help Yunnan-based enterprises explore expansion opportunities in Malaysia, focusing on trade, logistics, investment access, plus the growing halal economy.

Event Hosted by Key Yunnan Trade Institutions

The session, titled “Yunnan Enterprises Going Global and Implementing the Business Model Seminar”, was hosted by the Kunming South Asia and Southeast Asia International Logistics Research Institute, with Yunnan Salam International Trade Co Ltd and Makiplago Holdings Sdn Bhd as co-organisers.

Speakers such as Liu Jinxin, dean of the Research Institute, and Zhu Jiangpeng, chairman of Yunnan Salam International Trade Co Ltd, underscored the long-standing Yunnan–Malaysia connection while highlighting new potential in logistics cooperation, cultural exchange, market development, plus deeper commercial ties.

Dialogue on Logistics, Halal Certification, Coffee, Flowers

A multi-sector discussion featured representatives from both sides, including:

  • Du Juan, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)
  • Cao Ronggen, Kunming International Flora Auction Center
  • Professor Ma Yunpeng, Yunnan Halal Certification Service Center
  • Duan Jiatong, Yunnan Yumai Logistics
  • Li Ronghua and Wu Yuzhong, Salam Yunnan Halal Center

They exchanged insights on logistics facilitation, halal standards, cultural engagement, plus opportunities in flowers and coffee, two major Yunnan export strengths.

Selangor Highlights Appeal as Hub for Yunnan Investment

Selangor executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin joined the closing ceremony, noting that healthcare, elderly care, agriculture, and the halal supply chain offer promising avenues for collaboration.
She emphasized that Selangor’s infrastructure, talent pool, business incentives, plus its location make the state a strategic base for Yunnan firms entering Malaysia.

Cross-Border Agreements Signed During Event

Companies from both countries formalized cooperation deals, which organisers described as progress in procurement-focused initiatives and broader foreign trade expansion. A showcase of Yunnan’s agricultural goods and halal products attracted significant interest from participants.

Yunnan Delegation Visits Prime Office Site in Kuala Lumpur

Before the seminar, the delegation toured office facilities in the Atlanta Building, located in the Golden Triangle. Delegates expressed satisfaction with the site, viewing it as suitable for potential Malaysian operations.
