Halal Medicines Require Separate Transportation and Storage
New Standards Mandate Strict Handling Protocols for Islamic-Compliant Pharmaceuticals
Halal medicines must be transported and stored separately from other pharmaceutical products, according to Sehrana Rzayeva, head of the Light Industry Standardisation Department at the Azerbaijan Standardisation Institute, as reported by Azernews.
The head of the Light Industry emphasized that vehicles used for transporting these medicines must meet hygienic and sanitary standards. Rzayeva explained that entrepreneurs bear the responsibility for maintaining the halal integrity of products during transportation until they reach the point of sale.
New National Standard Established
The Azerbaijan Institute of Standardisation, operating under the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Consumer Market Supervision within the Ministry of Economy, has introduced a new state standard titled “Halal Medicines – Part 1 – General Requirements”.
Rzayeva defined halal medicines as pharmaceutical products manufactured using ingredients that comply with Islamic principles. She clarified that the production of these medications cannot include human or animal blood, animal-derived products considered forbidden in Islam, or any other religiously prohibited ingredients.
The standard applies to both domestically produced and imported halal medicines. Rzayeva specified that halal medicines manufactured in accordance with this state standard must possess a certificate verifying compliance with these requirements.
