Saudi Arabia Launches ESG-Integrated Halal Certification to Boost Global Trust

| By MSN

New Halal Mark Track Combines Sharia Compliance with Sustainability Standards

The Saudi Halal Centre has rolled out a new Halal Mark Track, a certification framework that integrates halal compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, reinforcing the Kingdom’s ambition to lead the global halal industry.

Developed under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Halal Product Development Company—a Public Investment Fund (PIF) entity—and THIQAH, a government-owned business services provider. Together, they aim to enhance transparency, credibility, and sustainability across the halal value chain.

Aligning Halal Assurance with ESG Principles

The Halal Mark Track adopts a holistic approach by aligning Saudi Arabia’s officially approved halal standards with ESG compliance requirements. Products and services certified under this scheme must not only meet strict halal criteria but also demonstrate responsible environmental practices, social accountability, and strong governance structures.

This integration is expected to increase consumer confidence in halal-certified products while strengthening their competitiveness in both regional and international markets.

Strengthening Systems and Industry Recognition

A key component of the initiative is the development of an advanced evaluation and monitoring system by the Halal Product Development Company and THIQAH. The system applies rigorous assessment criteria to products and services, ensuring that certified entities gain higher recognition and enhanced market credibility.

Beyond certification, the framework supports manufacturers and service providers in achieving global quality and sustainability benchmarks, helping them stay aligned with evolving international standards.

Positioning Saudi Arabia as a Global Halal Hub

Strategically, the ESG-aligned Halal Mark Track is designed to raise compliance levels and improve overall quality within the halal sector. It provides businesses—both domestic and international—with tools to improve operational efficiency, expand export potential, and strengthen market positioning.

By embedding sustainability within halal certification, Saudi Arabia is setting a new industry benchmark and reaffirming its role as a forward-looking leader in shaping a resilient, globally competitive halal ecosystem.
