MIHAS 2025: Aiming for RM4.5 Billion in Global Halal Trade

The 21st Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) is gearing up for an exciting future, with a bold target of generating RM4.5 billion in global halal trade by 2025. This ambitious goal is supported by the innovative Madani Digital Trade (MDT) platform, which harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to enhance business connections and facilitate international halal trade, especially for small and medium enterprises.

Connecting Businesses with the Madani Digital Trade Platform

Launched in March, the MDT platform is designed to bridge the gap between businesses and potential trade partners. It aims to simplify cross-border halal trade, making it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to find international partners and expand their market reach. This platform is a significant step forward in promoting halal trade on a global scale.

MIHAS: A Showcase of Success

MIHAS is organized by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and hosted by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti). Last year, the event was a resounding success, generating RM4.3 billion in sales and attracting over 43,000 visitors from 90 countries. This year’s showcase promises to build on that success and further elevate Malaysia’s position in the halal market.

The Growing Halal Industry

According to Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Miti’s deputy secretary-general (Industry), the halal industry is projected to contribute a remarkable 10.8%—or RM231 billion—to Malaysia’s gross domestic product by 2030. The global demand for halal products is currently valued at over US$3 trillion and is expected to soar to US$5 trillion by 2030. This growth is driven by an increasing interest in ethical and sustainable consumption, making halal products more appealing to consumers worldwide.

Malaysia’s Leading Role in the Global Halal Market

Malaysia has consistently held the top position in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator rankings for the past ten years, outperforming countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates. The country’s strengths lie in various sectors, including Islamic finance, halal food, and media and recreation. This solid foundation positions Malaysia as a leader in the halal industry.

A Theme of Excellence and Collaboration

Matrade chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican emphasized that the theme for MIHAS 2025, “Pinnacle of Halal Excellence,” reflects Malaysia’s commitment to innovation and leadership in the halal sector. The event will also celebrate the rich diversity of ASEAN cultures, fostering business collaboration and dialogue among participants.

Navigating Global Trade Challenges

Despite the complexities of the current global trade landscape, including recent tariff impositions, Malaysia remains committed to achieving a minimum of 5% export growth towards the RM1.58 trillion target set for the year. This determination showcases the resilience and adaptability of the Malaysian halal industry.

Upcoming Global Edition in Shanghai

Following its successful international debut in Dubai last year, MIHAS will have its next global installment in Shanghai this November, as part of the China International Import Expo (CIIE). This edition will feature a wide range of halal offerings, facilitating valuable business connections between international suppliers and Chinese distributors and retailers.

MIHAS 2025: Event Details

Mark your calendars! MIHAS 2025 will take place from September 17 to 20 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The event will showcase 14 industry clusters, including food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, Islamic finance, modest fashion, and Islamic art and crafts. This is an exciting opportunity for businesses to explore the vast potential of the halal market and connect with like-minded partners.
