Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Halal Industry Development
JAKARTA – Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan have officially launched a collaborative initiative to develop their halal industries through a cooperative agreement between Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Trade. This strategic partnership was formalized during the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Banten, marking a significant step toward strengthening both nations’ positions within the global halal supply chain.
Record of Discussion Establishes Framework for Cooperation
The preliminary agreement was documented in a Record of Discussion (RoD), signed by Kris Sasono Ngudi Wibowo, Head of the Halal Industry Center at Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry, and A.D. Kaiyrbekov, Director of the Halal Industry Development Center of the Kyrgyz Republic.
“Indonesia remains committed to strengthening international collaboration within the halal sector. Through this partnership, we aim to foster mutually beneficial halal industry ecosystem growth, serving not only domestic markets but also supporting global supply chains,” stated Kris in a press release on Monday, September 29, 2025.
Comprehensive Scope of Bilateral Cooperation
The partnership encompasses multiple strategic areas designed to enhance both countries’ halal industry capabilities:
- Enhanced Global Competitiveness: Joint efforts to improve market positioning and competitive advantages in international halal markets
- Information Exchange and Consultation: Regular sharing of industry insights, best practices, and technical expertise related to halal production and certification
- Human Resource Development Programs: Training initiatives to build skilled workforce capacity in halal industry operations
- Product and Service Promotion: Collaborative marketing efforts to expand reach and visibility of halal products and services
- International Engagement: Joint participation in global seminars, symposiums, and industry conferences
The Ministry of Industry has assured that regular communication channels with Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Trade will be maintained to ensure the partnership’s continuity and effectiveness.
From Initial Agreement to Formal Implementation
Kris explained that technical details and specific activities will subsequently be formalized through official agreements, including Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and other binding documents.
“This document represents an initial step toward strengthening halal industry development cooperation between Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan. Moving forward, technical specifications and more detailed activities will be outlined in formal agreements,” Kris elaborated.
Kyrgyzstan Welcomes Strategic Alliance
A.D. Kaiyrbekov expressed Kyrgyzstan’s enthusiastic support for the initiative, recognizing Indonesia as a strategic partner in halal industry advancement.
“With these preliminary discussions, we anticipate accelerating the implementation of concrete programs that will benefit both nations,” he stated.
Context: Indonesia’s Growing Halal Industry Leadership
This partnership comes as Indonesia continues to solidify its position as a global leader in the halal economy. Recent data indicates that halal industry investment has reached $5.8 billion USD, with Indonesia securing $1.6 billion USD of that total. Additionally, domestic halal consumption has reached Rp 3,226 trillion, demonstrating the sector’s rapid growth trajectory.
The collaboration between Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan represents a strategic alignment of interests, combining Indonesia’s established halal industry infrastructure and certification expertise with Kyrgyzstan’s emerging halal market potential and geographic position serving Central Asian markets.
As both nations navigate an evolving global economic landscape, this partnership signals their commitment to creating sustainable, internationally competitive halal industries that can meet growing worldwide demand for certified halal products and services.
