JAKARTA – China’s top diplomat Wang Yi is set to visit three Middle Eastern countries starting this Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.

The five-day diplomatic mission will take Wang to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, marking another significant engagement between Beijing and the Arab world.

Itinerary and Meetings

Wang’s tour will commence in Abu Dhabi, where he will meet with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who extended the invitation for the visit.

The Chinese foreign minister will then proceed to Riyadh for discussions with his Saudi counterpart, Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The regional tour will conclude next week in Amman, where Wang will hold talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

Focus on Strengthening Ties

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized Beijing’s “profound traditional friendship” with all three nations. The upcoming meetings will address bilateral relations, regional Middle Eastern affairs, and other shared concerns.

According to Guo, the discussions aim to strengthen political trust, increase coordination, and advance bilateral partnerships to higher levels.

Preparations for China-Arab Summit

A key agenda item will be preparations for the second China-Arab States Summit, scheduled to take place in Beijing next year. The inaugural summit was held in Riyadh in 2022.

Regional Context

Wang’s visit occurs against the backdrop of ongoing discussions about Gaza’s future governance. The UN Security Council recently adopted a resolution establishing a transitional Board of Peace and authorizing an International Stabilization Force to oversee governance, reconstruction, and security in Gaza until December 2027.

China has consistently advocated that any post-conflict arrangements for Gaza should uphold the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine” and support the two-state solution framework.
