Tunisia and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Five New Cooperation Agreements
JAKARTA — Tunisia and Saudi Arabia took significant steps to deepen their partnership on Sunday, signing five comprehensive agreements and memorandums of understanding across multiple strategic sectors during the 12th session of the Tunisian-Saudi Joint Committee in the Saudi capital.
The two-day session, which commenced Sunday in Riyadh, resulted in landmark agreements covering customs cooperation, mining sector collaboration, postal services, and media exchange, as reported by Tunis Afrique Presse.
Key Agreements Signed
Among the signed documents was a bilateral agreement focused on customs cooperation and mutual assistance, aimed at streamlining trade procedures between the two nations. The countries also formalized their commitment to postal sector collaboration through a dedicated memorandum of understanding.
A significant mining cooperation MoU was established between Tunisia’s Industry, Energy and Mines Ministry and Saudi Arabia’s Industry and Mineral Resources Ministry, opening new avenues for resource development collaboration.
The media sector received particular attention, with agreements signed between Tunisia’s national broadcasting institutions and the Saudi Broadcasting Authority to enhance radio and television cooperation. Additionally, Tunis Afrique Presse and the Saudi Press Agency formalized an executive program for news exchange and collaborative journalism.
Vision for Enhanced Partnership
Tunisian Economy and Planning Minister Samir Abdelhafidh characterized the session as a pivotal moment in reinforcing the legal infrastructure that governs bilateral relations. He confirmed that both nations committed to advancing additional agreements and announced plans for a Monday meeting bringing together private-sector representatives from both countries.
Saudi Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef emphasized the committee’s role in advancing trade, economic ties, and investment cooperation. He highlighted substantial opportunities for expanded collaboration, particularly within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, noting that both governments are actively pursuing increased joint investment initiatives.
The joint committee session, co-chaired by Ministers Abdelhafidh and Al-Khorayef, coincides with the Tunisian-Saudi Economic Forum, designed to identify investment prospects and strengthen the bilateral partnership in trade and commerce.
