TakaHisa Introduces Japan’s AED 1.2 Million Grand Champion Wagyu to Dubai

| By Caterer Middle East

Dubai has become home to one of the most exclusive wagyu offerings ever released outside Japan, as TakaHisa unveils the legendary Matsusaka grand champion beef for a limited presentation in the UAE.

The Matsusaka grand champion distinction is awarded to only a single animal each year, representing the highest level of excellence in Japanese wagyu production. The 2025 title-winning carcass achieved an unprecedented valuation of approximately AED 1.2 million, ranking it among the most expensive wagyu ever traded worldwide. In an extraordinary acquisition, TakaHisa secured not only the grand champion winner but also the second-place excellence award recipient directly from the official auction—making it the only restaurant globally to obtain the top two-ranked Matsusaka cattle from the same year.

The historic purchase was led by Hisao Ueda, who stood as the sole chef from outside Japan granted access to this year’s auction. His deep-rooted relationships with elite wagyu producers and longstanding reputation within Japan’s culinary circles made it possible for the prized beef to be allocated to Dubai rather than remaining exclusively within the domestic market.

Known as Kazumi-go, the grand champion wagyu was evaluated under Japan’s most demanding cattle competition standards. Judging criteria extend far beyond marbling, incorporating balance, texture, refinement, and overall meat quality. In the Matsusaka category, assessment even includes the condition and presentation of the live animal itself. With only one cow receiving the grand champion title annually, the rarity of the beef now served at TakaHisa is unparalleled.

By securing the cattle immediately following the competition, TakaHisa obtained full, fully traceable allocations rather than limited secondary portions. This allows the restaurant to present the entire spectrum of Japan’s most decorated wagyu through a dedicated champion beef omakase experience, complemented by a select range of à la carte offerings. Preparations are intentionally minimal and precise, designed to emphasize purity, texture, and the natural depth of flavor.

TakaHisa operates under its own import trade licence and works directly with Japan’s most respected wagyu producers. All beef is processed at UAE-approved facilities and prepared in full compliance with halal standards, ensuring integrity across every stage—from sourcing and handling to final service.

In addition to Matsusaka beef, the restaurant is also featuring champion Kobe beef sourced from the 2025 Kobe Beef Carcass Competition, further reinforcing its commitment to the highest tier of Japanese culinary excellence. Under the leadership of chefs Taka and Hisa, these rare additions position TakaHisa at the pinnacle of wagyu dining, offering Dubai an experience that is seldom accessible even within Japan itself.
