Qatar Joins Pax Silica Alliance to Strengthen Economic Security Partnership with US

JAKARTA – Qatar has become the latest member of the Pax Silica Declaration, marking a significant step in global economic collaboration and strategic alliances centered on technological advancement and supply chain stability.

The agreement was formalized yesterday through signatures from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, and US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, Jacob Helberg. The framework underscores growing recognition among nations that economic strength and national defense are deeply connected in today’s fast-changing technological environment.

Mutual Commitment to Long-Term Stability

At the signing event, Dr. Al-Sayed described the declaration as a meaningful milestone in Qatar-US relations, built on mutual confidence, shared objectives, and a common commitment to enduring stability and economic prosperity.

He reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to joining prominent international efforts that aim to ensure dependable supply chains for semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and cutting-edge technologies. Dr. Al-Sayed observed that the world economy is experiencing major shifts propelled by AI developments, increasing needs for energy and essential minerals, and swift technological evolution.

He stressed that ongoing collaboration and reliable partnerships are vital for reinforcing technology ecosystems throughout this period of change.

Positioning Qatar as a Regional Digital Hub

The Minister pointed to Qatar’s investments in digital systems, sophisticated industries, and innovation, specifically mentioning cloud computing centers built by American firms that have helped establish the nation as a premier digital center in the region.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry posted on social media that this move “reinforces the partnership between the two countries and contributes to building a more resilient and sustainable economic ecosystem.”

From Oil to Silicon: A New Economic Era

Helberg characterized the initiative as representing a transition from an oil-driven economic framework to one focused on technological advancement through what he termed “silicon diplomacy.” He remarked that while oil and steel dominated the previous century, today’s world is increasingly influenced by computational capabilities and access to vital minerals.

The partnership will encompass cooperation on strategic initiatives including critical minerals security programs, upgrading global logistics networks, expanding data center infrastructure, and enhanced artificial intelligence collaboration. Helberg extended an invitation to Qatar for an upcoming ministerial gathering on critical minerals in Washington, DC, stating: “Welcome to the alliance. Let us work together to build the operating system for the 21st century.”

Expanding Coalition for Global Economic Growth

With Qatar’s entry, Pax Silica now includes eight member nations, with officials indicating more countries are anticipated to join as the coalition grows its function as a mechanism for secure, inclusive, and sustainable worldwide economic development.

American officials characterized Qatar as a “key partner” given its consistent investments in advanced technology, secure energy distribution networks, and critical materials.

Pax Silica represents an economic security coalition tailored for the artificial intelligence age, uniting partner countries with common strategic resources such as computing systems, silicon production, essential minerals, and energy supplies.

Broader Investment Cooperation Discussed

Additionally, Dr. Al-Sayed conducted discussions with Binh Black, Chief Executive Officer of the US International Development Finance Corporation, examining possibilities to expand cooperation in commercial and investment domains, particularly regarding joint investment opportunities.
